What are Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

Blog by Dr Rashidy, Cosmeticine

Anti-Wrinkle is a new generic name given to different brands of Botulinum Toxin A drugs (Azzalure Brand, Botox Brand, Dysport Brand, etc.).

B Toxin A is a protein that has the ability to weaken muscles activities. So if a tiny amount of it is injected to very active muscles of the upper face (which normally can create moving wrinkles), it will result in less activity, meaning less wrinkles and ultimately a softer, fresher and younger looking face.

How long do anti-wrinkle injections last?

Almost all Anti-wrinkles will last an average of 12 weeks or 3 months’ per time.

How do I know if anti-wrinkle injections are right for me?

Any upper face moving wrinkles can be safely treated at any age in adulthood. Here are three common examples:

  • wrinkles between eyebrows when making an angry expression
  • wrinkles on the forehead when frowning/looking up
  • wrinkles next to the eyes

Are Anti-Wrinkle injections and Botox the same thing?

Botox is an American brand name for the same Botulinum Toxin A. It is just the same thing, but with different terminology/name.

How long will the Anti-Wrinkle appointment be?

A treatment session will include going through your relevant medical history and discussing what you would like to achieve and how we can treat that safely. Then cleaning the face, marking the injection sites, taking a few pre-treatment photos, and then having the injections.

The first consultation will take up to 30 minutes, and any subsequent appointments will be approximately 20 minutes.

Is there any aftercare involved? Is there anything I should avoid after my appointment?

Your clinician will always discuss aftercare and a written leaflet is available too.

Generally, it is advised to:

  • Keep sitting or standing up, avoiding leaning forward or backward for 6 hours after treatment.
  • To avoid touching, cleaning, washing or putting make-up on the injection sites for 8-12 hours.
  • To avoid extreme heat, cold, exercise, or anything which can cause flushing (red face) within 2 weeks, when treatment will show its effect.
